THE Bumbu 13A Market in Lae was burnt down on Saturday night following two incidents during the day in which a PMV was robbed and a police vehicle was damaged.
According to a police brief on the Lae Metropolitan Command Facebook page, the market will be closed indefinitely.
In the first incident at around 10am, a PMV bus was held up by four men armed with catapult and other weapons. They got away with the day’s takings.
According to police, the prime suspect in both incidents has been caught and is also linked to other petty crimes in the China Town and Bumbu areas.
The report said that a police unit on patrol at the market on Saturday afternoon was stoned and had the rear window of its vehicle damaged.
“The market will remain closed until the three suspects are brought in,” the police report said.
Police urged the Bumbu communities to bring in the suspects if they find them.
