POLICE officers will be trained over two weeks in Port Moresby on how to deal with conflict situations.
The training will focus on the proper way of using force, Police College chief instructor Erwin Maritua said.
The 21 provincial training officers will be trained on ethical standards, use of force, protecting human rights and dealing with victims.
“Law and order problem in the country is everyone’s business,” he said.
“Not only the police can solve problems but people must work together with the police on how to deal with situations.”
Regional armed force delegate Sylvain Gainon said the training given would follow international standards as used in European countries, America, Africa, Middle East and Asia.
Gainon who comes under the International Committee of the Red Cross has given similar trainings in other countries.
“We are not against the use of force but how to use it within the law to improve the security of the people and protect human rights.”
