Police monitors drug offences

POLICE say they will continue to keep an eye on drug-related offences in Port Moresby as most crimes in the city are committed by addicts.
The Boroko support units arrested a 14-year-old boy from Northern for allegedly having, in his possession, marijuana on board public transport in Port Moresby last week.
Meanwhile, a man, aged 43 from Goilala in Central, was also arrested by in Port Moresby last week for allegedly carrying marijuana.
“Both suspects have now been formally arrested and charged for being in possession of dangerous drug and they are now detained at the Boroko police station awaiting their respective court appearances,” police said in a statement.
“We are continuing to urge the public to report via the toll-free number 1800 100 any information in reference to the consumption, sales and distribution of this dangerous drug in the city.”
Last week, in Port Moresby, residents at Gerehu Stage 3B made a citizens’ arrest of two men who allegedly mugged a woman.
Police said its Dog Unit 117 responded and confiscated two homemade guns from suspects.
Police said both suspects were taken to be charged at the Gerehu police station.
“We thank members of the public for protecting their community,” police said.
