Police nab arson, murder suspects in Karkar

FOUR suspects wanted for serious crimes on Karkar Island were arrested and transported to Madang by a team of police officers last week.
Two were wanted for arson and the other two for murder.
The police team was led by Madang police commander Supt Mazuc Rubiang.
They went to the island following a complaint in relation to the burning of three houses and previous killings that had not been investigated. Supt Rubiang said the arson case resulted from a dispute among the villagers regarding the posting of a new head teacher at Anul Lutheran High School on the island.
It was alleged that the former head teacher refused to leave the school denying the new head teacher to take up his post.
The former head teacher allegedly blamed a ward councillor from the area for being behind his removal.
Supt Rubiang said police arrested two suspects for the arson case.
The other suspects were still at large and community leaders have been advised to bring the suspects to police.
Supt Rubiang urged the people in Karkar to report criminal activities to police.
Meanwhile, Supt Rubiang called on the islanders to look after Government properties, public servants and others service providers on the Island.
