Police need better skills

Letters

THERE is public outcry over police thuggish behaviour.
The police commissioner has taken certain measures to rectify the situation, but it is not helping.
Most provincial police commanders are not trained managers. They lack basic management skills and can’t interpret government policies and devise strategies to implement policies to improve services.
The police promotion board is biased and the police commissioner has a lot of influence over it.
The CEO should allow the board to exercise its powers freely so that people are appointed and promoted on merit.
The PSC and PPC are senior management positions and should therefore go to people with management degrees and who have integrity and command respect in the community.
The police force is being mismanaged because some officers in key positions are not performing.
A major reshuffle is required to save the organisation.
