Police need to improve on leadership and discipline: Guinness

THE police department needs to improve on leadership and discipline, says Northern Command Assistant Commissioner of Police Peter Guinness.
He said that there had been a complete lack of supervision and leadership in the constabulary.
He urged provincial police commanders at a workshop in Lae to improve on leadership and management in their sections.
“Most of you are off-target and you are not coordinating their (officers’) performances and not managing policing affairs.
“They are all over the place. We need to keep stock of their performances,” he said.
Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr thanked the Internal Affairs Directorate for the leadership workshop.
He said there were many challenges but the one which stood out was discipline.
He said the workshop was very important as it would impress on team leaders the importance of discipline.
He said Commissioner of Police Gari Baki had called 2016 and 2017 the “year of discipline” but line managers and supervisors failed to implement the plan.
This is why they have all sorts of discipline issues.
