POLICE say a new trend in robbery is emerging with a large number of criminals storming or raiding a single site or target.
At least 20 with weapons and tools broke into a West Taraka store in Lae on Monday and made away with goods worth about K5,000 and K1,700 in cash, Lae Metropolitan police commander Chief Supt Chris Kunyanban said.
In the process they held up and robbed a woman of a large amount of cash. She had just got off a car to do her banking, he said
Kunyanban said more than 20 men were involved in the robbery Police, acting on information, were able to arrest four suspects and confiscated tools used during the break-in.
“This is the same method that criminals are employing now when they want to commit serious crimes,” Kunyanban said.
“They go in huge numbers to commit a single crime. The community is now at task to seriously work closely with police to curb this.”
“At the same time, a woman trying to make her banking at an ANZ Bank branch in Lae’s main market was held up at gunpoint outside the bank and a huge amount of money was robbed off her by three suspects.
