Police officer hospitalised following attack at Gordon

A police officer was hospitalised with serious injuries after he was attacked at Gordon Market, Port Moresby, on Saturday, according to the National Capital District superintendent of operations Fred Tundu.
Although Tundu would not elaborate, a source said the officer was attacked when he tried to arrest a man  for snatching a woman’s bag.
“He was attacked by a group of men,” the source said.
“The men were the bag snatcher’s friends.”
The source said the man snatched the woman’s bag and got into a PMV.
“When the officer intervened, his friends wounded him,” the source said.
“They then jumped into the PMV and escaped towards Erima.”
Police yesterday closed down the bus stop.
Gordon shops and the market were closed while police investigated the incident.
