FINSCHHAFEN district police officers in Morobe will receive new uniforms as soon as possible, provincial police commander Superintendent Alex N’Drasal says.
He also announced that new firearms will be supplied with the uniforms.
N’Drasal while inspecting the firearms and ammo purchase by the district administration, asked where the firearms were.
He was told that the former commander took all the firearms back but N’Drasal said those firearms belonged to the district and would be returned.
The reservists were told that before using firearms, they would have to be trained well.
The PPC is understood to have made such visits to other maritime districts in Morobe like Tewai-Siassi and Huon Gulf to inspect and verify reports on the lack of manpower and logistics there.
N’Drasal invited Finschhafen MP Renbo Paita to support the initiative and help combat law and order problems in the district.
He urged regulars and reservists to be committed and remain loyal to their duties.
“No police officers, either regular or reservist, is to escort or align himself or herself with any politician, logging companies or others,” he said.
“Police reservists are paid under the district administration and you have to serve the interest of the people,” he told the 41 police reservists stationed at Gagidu.
He told them that the reason for increasing drug transportation transiting Finschhafen to West New Britain was because of their slackness in monitoring it.
He also announced that the Finschhafen Police Station would have a new station commander to be flown in from Port Moresby towards the end of the month.
