POLICE officers accused of killing a young man at Gerehu in Port Moresby are being investigated, National Capital District and Central commander Donald Yamasombi says.
“Investigations have confirmed that police officers were accused of killing the man last month,” he said yesterday.
“We attended the crime scene and collected all the witnesses’ statements.”
Yamasombi said they were verifying witnesses’ statements to ensure there was evidence linked to the suspects.
According to reports, the 20-year-old from East New Britain was shot by police when he was returning from a shop.
Meanwhile, Yamasombi said they were still investigating the killing
of a man at Tapini in Goilala after he was accused of seriously wounding an auxiliary police officer.
The man had attacked the auxiliary officer during a mediation to solve a marriage dispute.
“The man was killed last Monday with a bushknife after he allegedly chopped the hand of the auxiliary police officer near Tapini Station,” he said.
“The man was killed after a mob took revenge for injuring the auxiliary police officer.”
