Police officers urged to continue duties despite ruling

POLICE officers in Port Moresby and Central have been warned to continue carrying out their duties and not be distracted by the court’s ruling on Police Commissioner David Manning.
Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jr warned the officers not to take sides after Manning was ordered by the National Court on Friday to vacate the office.
ACP Wagambie said the decision was made by the Court and should not affect daily police work.
“I want to reassure the residents of Central and Port Moresby that police work continues,” he said.
“I am sure this matter will be solved amicably and residents will still count on police for assistance.
“It’s business as usual. We will continue to serve the people. Police are still in operation.
“The command and control is still intact. For stability, we will continue to serve.”
Wagambie attended a briefing Manning called for top-ranked officers which lawyers also were invited to.
Manning maintains that the constabulary is intact and he will be seeking legal advice on the court’s decision.
