Investigations into the stoning of a police vehicle at Pewi Beach in Vanimo last week are still underway, says Vanimo police commander Joe Poema.
He said although seen as a minor offense, people must know that the vehicle was a property of the State.
He said someone threw a rock at the vehicle which broke the window on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Poema said police officers who were on patrol that night could not identify the suspect, who fled.
He said people living in that community should help police find the suspect.
Poema said tougher penalties would likely be imposed on the alleged suspect.
He urged the people of Vanimo to help look after police vehicles because they were there to help police ensure peace prevailed in the community.
Poema said law and order was everyone’s business and the stoning of the police vehicle was uncalled for.
He said Vanimo police were having transportation problems, especially vehicles to take officers to settle disputes and issues that were affecting the community.
Poema said it was embarrassing to go around asking businesshouses for fuel.
“We have not received any funds from the Government since March,” he said.
