Police plan to enforce security, safety during new year celebrations

POLICE in Eastern Highlands will be out in full force to oversee security and safety issues during the New Year celebrations.
Eastern Highlands police commander David Seine Jr said police in Yonki, Kainantu, Henganofi, Okapa, Lufa, Aiyura, Goroka, Ungai-Bena, Asaro and Watabung were already engaged in thea special Christmas and New Year operation.
He said the people enjoyed peaceful celebrations over Christmas as result.
Seine Jr said they would be out in full force during the New Year celebrations to ensure they were peaceful.
He said checks would be done on vehicles to ensure:

  • Traffic rules were followed;
  • no drinking and driving; and,
  • No overloading.

Seine commended youth leaders and churches who engaged youths in sporting events over the festive period to keep them occupied.
He commended his officers for doing a tremendous job over Christmas and asked them to do the same during New Year.
Seine thanked police units from the eight districts and those in Kainantu and Goroka towns for working hard to maintain peace in the province.
“I also do not forget church leaders, community leaders, political and administrative leaders for contributing immensely towards a peaceful observance of Christmas,” he said.
“I did not receive any reports of law and order situations during Christmas and I want the same to be repeated on New Year period.
“The phase one of police special operations for Christmas was a success and I want phase two for New Year to be the same.”
Seine said police would come down hard on those who broke the law.
“Do not resort to unlawful activities because police will be stringent to maintain peace and harmony.”
