POLICE in East Sepik are investigating the death of a man from Nomalua village in Angoram.
The deceased was allegedly murdered on April 24.
East Sepik police commander Supt Albert Beli said the deceased Tony Gingi was attacked by armed men who entered his house and killed him.
Supt Beli said nine men, who were all armed with knives and other dangerous weapons, entered Gingi’s house at around 10am and attacked him.
Gingi sustained injuries to his head and body and was rushed to Timbunke health centre where he was pronounced dead.
Supt Beli said the motive of Gingi’s killing most likely related to a land dispute with the suspects.
He said the ward member of area was allegedly involved in the dispute as well and police were investigating the matter.
Supt Beli said three suspects had been arrested and were detained at Angoram police station. He said the suspects would be charged when witness statements and other evidence were gathered by police.
Supt Beli called on people to respect each other and maintain peace and order in their communities especially during the state of emergency and the threat posed by Covid-19.
He said police personnel were scattered throughout the province carrying out awareness on Covid-19 so they would not be able to respond immediately to complaints.
