The Papua New Guinea Royal Constabulary will support the Urban Youth Employment Project by providing on-the-job training for 32 youths in the National Capital District.
The trainees will undergo training with police for five months starting on Monday.
Papua New Guinea Urban Youth Employment Project business and marketing coordinator Mandy Newton said the police force came on board just like other previous and current employers providing training opportunities for the city youths, under the project.
Newton said the trainees would be placed in the administration and other sections as needed by the constabulary and not as law enforcers.
She said the programme developed valuable work place ethics, attitudes and work experience as well as a chance for the youths to prove to employers their employability skills and potential to excel.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Raphael Huafolo welcomed the trainees,  saying that the project was a good initiative as it engaged youths to be productive members in the community and provided motivation for them.
Huafolo said the police force, as a responsible institution, partnered with UYEP to participate in the programme through the placement of the trainees.
He said the institution was now accommodating the young trainees to do their on-the-job training and become responsible people.
Huafolo said that the government was not able to provide for everyone so such projects and working partnerships were encouraging and should  continue.
