POLICE in Morobe have imposed a curfew at a government station in Finschhafen in an effort to stop fighting between youths from two villages.
Provincial Police Commander Superintendant Alex N’Drasal said a team of 10 officers were assisting with the peace talks.
The curfew had been imposed at Gagidu station.
The fight broke out two weeks ago following an alcohol-related incident. It developed into a clash between the Sialum and Nasingalatu villagers.
The unrest has affected schools, business and services at the district headquarters.
“The curfew will be running from 9pm to 6am to make sure public properties, government services and others businesses as well as the general public are safe,” he said.
He said people must assist the police officers who were there to help bring normalcy back to Gagidu.
“The presence of the police unit is to monitor the movement of people. I am urging the people at Gagidu to stay indoors from 9pm to 6am.”
