CHRISTMAS celebrations in Milne Bay were peaceful and quiet with police providing security to ensure communities celebrated in the true festive spirit, says Milne Bay police commander Chief Inspector Benjamin Kua.
He said families celebrated in churches and homes peacefully without causing trouble.
“Only one man was arrested by police for cultivating marijuana, otherwise the Christmas and Boxing Day celebrations in Milne Bay were peaceful,” he said.
“Police did extremely well by providing security and the festive celebrations were trouble-free across the province.”
Kua said communities helped police with community policing in their own communities by forming neighbourhood watches which comprised youths in ward areas.
“They basically addressed and contained minor issues, no major problems.”
Kua said a total of 80 police officers had covered Milne Bay to ensure that Christmas was celebrated safely.
“Despite the fuel and logistics problems we faced, the dedicated policemen and women had sleepless nights and stressful days to ensure the people of Milne Bay enjoyed the true spirit of the festive season celebrations with their loved ones,” he said.
Kua urged the people to continue to live in peace and harmony into the New Year period.
