POLICE are looking for four Bangladeshis hiding in the Kikori district of Gulf, who had illegally entered the country while on their way to Australia.
Gulf police commander Chief Insp Maria Johns said the four allegedly entered Western from Merauke in the Papua province of Indonesia last week, with the help of locals.
“Police are now searching for them in the remote Kikori area after tip off,” she said.
The four managed to evade police and law enforcement authorities in Western and reached Kikori.
“They are hiding there and preparing to sneak across the PNG-Australian maritime border into Torres Strait Islands in Far North Queensland,” she said.
“From there, they will go into the Australian mainland with the help of human smugglers in Australia.”
Johns said the locals were part of an international human smuggling network operating in Australia, PNG and Indonesia.
Johns has already given the Australian High Commission in Port Moresby a heads-up.
In a separate incident, police arrested a Chinese for illegally working in PNG after a raid on a shop at Malalaua district, Gulf.
“Police had executed a warrant to search for firearms in the store after being tipped off that firearms were in that shop,” Johns said.
Police did not find any guns but found bags of fish bladders and a man from China who did not have a passport and visa.
The Chinese was taken to Port Moresby and handed over to Immigration officers.

  • Can the police and the immigration people check on the Chinese people in living illegally at Kaimari in the Kutubu area? There are more Chinese and Indians living illegally in Tari township, Hides and Nogoli areas as well.

  • Very interesting Mcpaul. How did these foreigners got there with out police or imigration people?

  • It is good to see work done in outer districts some so remote however port moresby alone have thousands of aliens living right under our noses and driving around with police escorts.
What have we done about that?

  • Asians are here with a wealth of business experiences to do business and create more job opportunities for our local people around the local communities across the country to be employed for their bread and butter for the families. Government needs to support these Asians to set up more trade store businesses in all the districts and villages around country for our locals don`t have enough education qualifications to get the good jobs can be employed by these Asians and at the same cash follow must be seen at those districts and villages at all times.

  • Immigration people are sleeping around. Good for the Government to do an overhaul of the Department.
