POLICE at Gerehu, in Port Moresby, will be starting their community awareness programme for the first quarter of 2014 next week, station commander Hohoves Kora says.
Kora said the programme would firstly focus on schools in the capital city suburb.
They include Gerehu Secondary School, Port Moresby National High School, Luanga Secondary School and Kopkop College.
The police officers will be visiting after arrangements are made with the schools and the metropolitan commander of the National Capital District and the NCD superintendent for operations.
Kora said police officers would talk to students on the dangers of drugs and alcohol and impress on them the importance of discipline.
He said the awareness would be extended to youths in Gerehu and residents of settlements.
“All settlements starting from the Gerehu Earth Station right through to Tete settlement will be visited,” he said.
NCD operations commander Supt Perou N’Dranou had earlier this year urged police station commanders to come up with action plans to prepare for major events in Port Moresby this year.
