Police station opens for complaints on family, sexual violence

THE new police station at Omili in Lae will attend to complaints regarding family and sexual violence, according to its commander Senior Constable Elias Labi.
It will also include the sector response unit, community policing, criminal investigation division.
“We did not have one before and all complaints were taken to the Lae Central Police Station in town. But now that we have a much bigger and spacious police station, all complaints will be attended to here,” Labi said.
He has two sergeants, a CID officer and six probationary constables under him.
“Now officers will do all their paper work here and send the reports to the Lae Metropolitan Superintendent.
“We will also include lockers for police officers to store their personal belongings.
“Police officers carry out foot patrols in Kamkumung, surrounding settlements, Limkey, University of Technology and along the back road to Butibam village.”
NCD-Central acting assistant police commissioner Anthony Wagambi said policing work in partnership with business houses had led to better addressing of law and order issues. Police Minister Bryan Kramer urged the community to look after police station.
