THE Jomba police station in Madang is undergoing a K200,000 maintenance work to provide officers a clean and healthy working environment.
Madang Governor Peter Yama said Police Commissioner Gari Baki would next month open the new-look facility which was funded by the provincial government.
He said police officers would perform their duties well in a clean and healthy environment.
“We approved K200,000 for the maintenance work and you can see some changes taking place,” Yama said. Madang police commander Chief Inspector Ben Neneo said the cells badly needed an upgrade.
Neneo said they awaiting a pump from Australia to supply water to the cells.
“Once these parts arrive, the cells will be reopened to hold detainees,” he said.
Meanwhile, a town resident is concerned about the lack of police visibility at the airport post.
