Police to address law, order issues at schools

THE Morobe government will be placing police men in rural high schools in the province to address law and order issues.
Governor Ginson Saonu said recently that police men trained under provincial government’s reservist programme would be posted to “problem” high and secondary schools.
“Over the next five years, we want to train more than 500 reserve police officers to serve in the districts and local level governments,” he said.
Saonu said it was a new idea that would be trialled out soon.
“They will also be stationed in Bugandi, Bumayong, Dregerhafen, Wasu, Grace Memorial, Menyamya secondary schools and Siassi and Salamaua high schools,” he said.
“These are problem schools, so police reserves will be accommodated in the school and be part of it.
“So problems that we’ve seen happening in the schools right now, won’t happen again.
“Pastoral activities with police presence on-hand will see law and order problems in the high and secondary schools minimised.”
Saonu said the first hundred police reservists who had graduated recently would be sent to enforce law and order in the nine districts and 33 LLGs.
He said the provincial government had also funded a classroom each in all high schools in province.
“All high schools were given money this year to put up a permanent infrastructure,” he said.
