MILNE Bay police will get the full support of provincial authorities to arrest criminals who robbed a shop and killed a policeman on Saturday, says provincial administrator Michael Kape.
The administration held a special meeting yesterday with the Governor Titus Philemon and provincial police commander Inspector Joseph Morehari to find ways to support the police.
“We have resolved to improve their sea transport system by providing dinghies and fuel and also purchase more firearms and safety gear for them,” he said.
“We will support their mobility so that we will make sure those criminal elements do not resurface in Alotau or the whole of Milne Bay.
“Enough is enough.
“We had thought of brining in a police unit from Port Moresby to assist but Alotau already has a task force in place to deal with such issues.”
Kape said the police would be resourced and equipped to protect lives and properties.
The police officer was shot by an armed gang robbing a shop in town on Saturday morning.
Police are concerned about the rise in criminal activities in the area involving the group of thugs.
