Police told to provide evidence

A 56-YEAR-OLD man accused of forging another man’s signature on a court application for an ex-parte order in the National Court, has to wait for a month at least to know what sort of evidence police have against him.
Waigani committal court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii read the charge to Sam Soi, 56, from Maroro village, Erave in Southern Highlands, and adjourned the case to Dec 7.
“I will give another month for the police to investigate and provide evidence before the court,” Magistrate Nii told Soi.
It was alleged that Soi pretended to be Max Yakema (complainant) and signed a court application for an ex-parte order in the National Court in the originating summons number 122 of 2022.
Yakema said that he did not give consent for his signature on the documents and had no knowledge of it until he was made aware of it on Aug 16 at the Boroko police station when it was shown to him.
He was asked to sign his signature on a piece of paper to verify it with police.
His signature looked different and did not match the one signed on the document used as evidence in the National Court.
Soi was questioned by police but he could not give any genuine excuses why Yakema’s signature was on the document which he used as part of his evidence OS # 122 of 2022.
He was arrested and charged with forgery and uttering.
