Police uniforms in wrong hands

Letters

IS Police Commissioner Gari Baki aware that police uniforms have been issued to the land transport division officers from the Department of Transport?
Is the Secretary for Transport, who is the Superintendent of Motor Traffic in Papua New Guinea, aware that his officers are wearing police uniforms – which are believed to not have been authorised by the Police Commissioner – for road inspection and traffic duties?
Do, these officers have the right to wear police uniforms with police traffic vests and call themselves road traffic inspectors when they have not been lawfully gazetted?
I reckon, it is wrong for transport officers to wear police uniforms without the authorisation of the police because they are not commissioned members of the police force. If I am correct, they have all committed a criminal offence.
The Apec transport committee and police traffic division should understand that all the transport inspectors’ powers granted under the old Motor Traffic Acts and Regulations have been repealed or transferred to the new Road Traffic Authority Act.
Officers of the Department of Transport should know that they are abusing the right to wear police uniforms.
Over to you, met sup and police commissioner. Please withdraw all police uniforms currently in the possession of the Department of Transport officers before those uniforms fall into the hands of criminals. The superintendent of internal affairs will be interested in this too.
