TWO cases of alleged police brutality reported during the state of emergency earlier this year and investigated by the Internal Investigations Directorate (IIU) have been completed.
IIU acting director Emil Alpha confirmed that the Morata and Gerehu cases had been completed and were awaiting further action to be taken.
“Other cases still to be completed included the Gabi and Ensisi case, while investigations are ongoing on the Porebada case,” he said.
Alpha said investigations had slowed down with the directorate moving offices and also due to the Covid-19.
“We are putting together information on the cases and hoping the other three cases will be completed as soon as possible,” Alpha said.
Former IIU director Chief Supt Robert Ali confirmed that for the Gerehu case, five officers who were at the scene were identified and various charges would be laid on them.
Alpha said while the cases were completed, further actions were yet to be taken.
Several raids had been conducted by police during the SOE which resulted in complaints raised by residents of the different villages and suburbs in Port Moresby.

  • I believe if the general public complied with rules handed down by the SOE controller, there would not have been any raids conducted by police. The public should comply with rules and laws enshrined in the constitution. There is consistent ignorance of rules displayed by the general public.

  • If rules are not complied with doesnt mean that police will physically manhandle to enforce the law. They should only make arrests and appropriate charges to be applied on offenders.

  • PNGians are very smart. Smarter than the smartest inventors like Bill Gates
PNGians have invented three easy steps to get Rich

    1. Disobey/Violate Govt instructions. Instigate Police
    2. Run to the courts to claim compensation
    3. Get paid a large amount of Tax Payers money.
    4. Repeat the above process
