QUICK action by the sector response unit (SRU) at Papuan compound in Lae last weekend resulted in two suspects arrested while the other two suspects are still at large, says Lae acting metropolitan commander Chief Insp Chris Kunyanban.
Kunyanban said the four suspects held up a store rented out by a Bangladeshi national with homemade guns when they attacked him.
“They made off with substantial amount of cash,” he said.
“Our SRU were alerted early and they managed to take in two suspects.
“The other two are still on the run and police is confident of making more arrests soon.”
In another incident over the weekend, a man was pronounced dead at Angau hospital after he was attacked in the early hours of Saturday morning at the Bumayong area.
Kunyanban says the deceased had some beer and was walking home when he got into an argument with the suspects.
He said during the argument, the two suspects hit the deceased and was unconscious and taken to the family home.
He was taken to Angau but was pronounced death on arrival.
“Police know the identity of the two suspects that are involved in the killing and will soon make arrests,” Kunyanban said.
