POLICE located and uprooted 17 marijuana plants weighing almost two kilogrammes in Aitape, West Sepik last week.
Local police estimated the street value to be K2,000.
According to Senior Sgt Alex Wakina, the police team from Vanimo along with the local police were doing a homebrew round along the Raihu Road when they came across the plants.
“We did not expect to see people growing marijuana plants beside their homes,” he said.
Wakina said when they arrived, the suspect was having breakfast and as soon as he saw them (the police), he fled the scene.
Wakina said out of the 17 plants uprooted, seven of the plants were matured and were ready for harvesting.
He said the plants would be kept at the police station in Aitape for evidence.
“We will keep the plants until the suspect is apprehended,” he said.
Wakina said the identity of the suspect was known and police were looking for him.
