Police warn people, street vendors of loitering

POLICE have warned street vendors and people to stop loitering around the main bus stops and shopping centres in Lae.
Northern Assistant Police Commissioner Peter Guinness said many people were not taking the Covid-19 threat seriously.
“This means that we might charge people for loitering so that will become a deterrent and (force) people to listen,” ACP Guinness said.
He also warned those selling near the supermarkets to leave.
He said the only problem police faced was where to detain the people arrested.
“At the moment, Buimo jail has also put in place Covid-19 measures and is not allowing in new detainees,” he said.
ACP Guinness said police would also start enforcing the Covid-19 public health safety measures.
“We have a serious attitude problem,” he said.
“We do not want to think and believe that covid-19 is real and it is here to stay.”
ACP Guinness said only 25 percent of the people were wearing masks.

  • Thanks Mr Peter Guiness, Many of our people are so stubborn, they simply can’t believe that the (disease) Covid-19 is real. this is like the days of Noa when people are making fun of Noa, they continue marrying, partying, eating and drinking till Noa and his family when into the boat and the flood came and swept everyone away to dead. I believe there is enough awareness but people are so stubborn.
