BRANDISHING of bush knives and loitering will not be tolerated, police warned at an awareness at Manu Autoport in Port Moresby on Saturday.
This followed an altercation between people from two warring tribes of Wapenamanda that saw a young man fatally stabbed at the autoport market on Thursday.
Commander for sector patrol Insp Joseph Sale with Badilli police stood at the autoport and told the public: “This is a public place where people should move freely.
“If you have tribal fights back in your province, Port Moresby is not your home province, it is the capital city.
“We are all here to work or conduct business to benefit ourselves one way or the another.
“We will not tolerate any altercations.”
He spoke strongly against fostering tribal fights at Manu Autoport and in the city, saying: “We will shoot to kill anyone brandishing a weapon and starting any form of altercation.
“By law we will use ultimate measures to bring about stability to this community, so I am here today to tell you and make awareness of that fact,” Sale said.
Police told the public angrily that all unruly behaviour towards any other persons was unacceptable and people should learn to work well with each other.
“In the case where people are unable to work together, the market would under-go a lockdown by police.”
He said that he would proceed to other places to deliver this same message to communities and market places such as Koki, Taurama, Gereka, Badili and Sabama.
