Policeman among four arrested in K100,000 bribery case

A policeman was among four people arrested for allegedly offering a bribe of K100,000 to a police investigator in Port Moresby to drop a case.
The investigator was investigating transnational crime, including human trafficking.
Police said the officer in charge of the Gordon police minor crimes unit Senior Sergeant Apollos Terry was heading the investigation into suspected human trafficking, uttering of government documents and other related crimes like visa and passport racketeering.
Police allege Terry was offered K100,000 by the managing director of company to drop the case he was investigating but Terry arrested and detained the man.
Police said another attempt was made to bribe Terry, but again Terry arrested the man who was making the offer to him and told him to call his contact for a meeting.
During the investigations, Terry’s team arrested a policeman, who denied the allegation. Police found K500 on him and K6000 at his home.
Three suspects and the policeman are in custody. Another policeman is expected to be arrested soon.
