A POLICEMAN has been charged with the murder of his wife and is being held at the Mendi police station, provincial police commander Chief Insp Daniel Yangen says.
Yangen said three youths allegedly involved in the killing of the 45-year-old woman from Kaulenge village, Imbonggu, Southern Highlands, were also charged with willful murder and detained with the police constable.
Yangen said the constable (named) and three teenagers were all from Koroba in Hela.
Police alleged that on March 14 at around 8.30pm, the policeman had an argument with his wife at the Kaupena Highway Patrol 17 base police barracks in Imbonggu, Southern Highlands.
Yangen said during the argument, the policeman and his wife came out of their house where he allegedly kicked her in the side causing her to fall unconscious on the ground.
He then allegedly picked up a stone and struck her on the head.
Yangen said the three youths allegedly joined in the attack kicking the woman while she was on the ground.
Yangen said the woman was taken to the Kaupena Health Centre the next day by relatives.
She was then referred to the Mt Hagen General Hospital where she died.
