Policemen charged with rape in police station

TWO policemen committed to stand trial for alleged rape in the National Court on Dec 19, by Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Cosmas Bidar appeared before Magistrate Tracy Ganaii yesterday.
Magistrate Ganaii adjourned the matter to March 5 for ruling on sufficiency of evidence as Bidar’s cases were listed for that date.
Sgt Ben Trepi, 55, of Kaleta village in Western Highlands and First Const Leo Kambao, 45, of Surugi village in Enga, were alleged to have sexually penetrated the victim at Hohola police station without her consent on Jan 10, 2019.
Both are members of the Royal PNG Constabulary stationed at Hohola police station.
The victim, an 18-year-old married woman, was brought to the police station after she had a fight with another woman and stabbed her.
She was locked up at the police station for a night when the alleged offence was committed against her.
The matter was reported to the criminal investigation division Gordon minor crimes.
the men were transported to Boroko police station, charged and detained. They were later released on a K1,000 bail each.
