A FEMALE police officer in Goroka Eastern Highlands appeared before the Goroka Committal Court for allegedly stealing police bail money.
First Const Gipora Aho from Gorohanota village in Goroka allegedly took K1,400 in police bail money belonging to three women.
The court adjourned her case to Feb 19 for further hearing and remanded Constable Aho.
Police refused Const Aho’s bail but allowed her to make a formal application before the court.
According to information before the court on Nov 23, Const Aho arrested Marzzie Soya, Serah Auwo and Mirriam Aitove after they assaulted another woman Miriam Kohuitete.
Const Aho detained the women at the Goroka police station cell and set a total bail of K3,000 (K500 per charge) for the three; Soya had four charges and was asked to pay K2,000 bail while Auwo and Aitove had one charge each and were asked to pay K1,000.
Const Aho then reduced the women’s bail to K1,400 to allow them to afford the bail.
The money was given to her.
The women were not issued valid bail receipts and their case was not recorded for the court despite Const Aho advising them about that.
A complaint was laid after the women realised their case had not been recorded.
Const Aho was arrested on Friday and charged with contravening section 87 (1) (a) (i) of the criminal code chapter 262.
