Policy doubles Manus school roll: Posong
LACK of adequate funding from the Government is a major challenge while trying to implement the tuition fee free education policy, Manus administrator Andrew Posong says.
Posong, during the Leaders’ Summit in Port Moresby yesterday, said the thing about the policy was that it had significantly increased the number of children in schools.
“The number of school children in the province has doubled and I hope the same is happening in other provinces throughout the country,” he said.
“That is overwhelming but the problem we face is lack of capacity to cater for these increasing number of children.”
Posong said classrooms were now overcrowded.
“There needs to be space for increasing building capacity through increase in funding from the Government as our provincial and district services improvement programme funds are inadequate,” Posong said.
