Politicking bad for soccer, players, Gunemba says

THE coach of last year’s National Soccer League champions Lae City Dwellers, Peter Gunemba, has raised concerns for the interest of his players in the ongoing the power struggle in PNG football.
“As a coach, the interest of my players is a top priority and I have been trying my best to get my players focused on the upcoming NSL and the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League.”
Gunemba appealed to the football administrative leaders to unite and come up with a compromise, considering the future growth of the code in the country.
“As a coach, that works closely with players I want the leaders to not use football for their personal gain and to think about the players,” he said.
Gunemba said football had taken more than half a century to build and improve and the current situation would adversely affect the game and push PNG back to square one.
“It took our country more than 50 years to build football and we must stand together for the interest of the players and that is to play the game and perform better.”
Gunemba advised his players in Lae to focus on their training and have their minds clear of the administrative politics currently going on.
The Dwellers have been training since December last year and are focused on the upcoming National Soccer League expected to start this month and the OFC Champions League next month.
