Polye welcomes Gamato’s decision to stick to election dates

OPPOSITION Leader Don Polye, pictured, has welcomed Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato’s decision to stick to the initially approved election dates.
He said the people wanted to see Gamato continue to discharge his duties independently until the writs were returned in July.
Polye said now that the common roll update would resume, Gamato should be wary of candidates inflating their supporters’ names and decreasing their opponents’.
Meanwhile, Polye said the Opposition was ready to challenge the nomination fee increase from K1000 to K10,000 in the Supreme Court.
He said the constitutional amendment bill had gone through the first reading with a 75-14 vote in the last Parliament session.
The Opposition leader called on the people around the country to mount pressure on their MPs to vote against the bill which was “draconian and an abuse of human rights”.
Polye said MPs should use their moral conscience and vote against it.
