THE Port Moresby Flag Football League is looking forward to wrapping its Digicel bowl tournament after completing round robin matches over the weekend.
PNG-American Flag Football president Timothy Jim said the top four teams after round five on Saturday automatically qualified for the finals.
“After round five, the top four teams Hohola Broncos, Kovera Heads, Blue Tongues and the 3K Kings have qualified to go into the finals play offs,” Jim said.
“They will now prepare for the major semifinals and the grand final matches that will be played on Feb 11 to wrap up the 2023 Digicel bowl championship,” he said.
North East Falcons and Matirogo Dragons were eliminated.
Jim said there was room for improvement as the sporting code was recently introduced into the country.
“There are a lot of improvement needed, however one of the teams that improved a lot during this season are the 3K Kings from Garden Hills,” Jim said.
“They have made it into the top four compared to their perform in the last championships. And for the teams advancing into the finals, they need to work on their skills to catch and throw the ball.
“The quarterback’s timing to throw the ball and the wide receivers timing, accuracy and speed is very important.”
Meanwhile, women from Hohola, Badili and Garden Hills have shown interest to compete.
Round 5 results: 3K Kings 2, Hohola Broncos 18; Blue Tongue 30, Kovera Heads 24; Matirogo Dragons 32, North East Falcons 24.
