Pom Gen sets new birth record for easter weekend
THE Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) had a record-breaking 162 births over the Easter long weekend (April 10-13).
The hospital’s dedicated obstetrics and gynaecology (O&G) staff safely delivered 89 baby girls and 73 baby boys.
According to the hospital, the Easter weekend was one of the busiest in years.
Previously, fewer than 100 babies were born during the Easter period.
Elizabeth Kabavas, from New Ireland, delivered a baby girl on Easter Monday and named her April.
She thanked the hospital staff for helping her and the other mothers over a challenging Easter period.
On average, 15,000 babies are delivered at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) annually. According to the hospital, it was the busiest labour wards in the country, delivering on average 40 babies a day.
Despite the Covid-19 lockdown, PMGH continued to provide normal services, including assisting mothers deliver their babies.
