THERE will be some interesting rugby league matches this weekend at the Lloyd Robson Oval this weekend.
On Saturday, Bishop Brothers Hawks will take on their neighbours from Konedobu, Kone Storms, while in the main game, archrivals Kavo Wests and MS Wagambie Paga Panthers meet in what is expected to be an exciting match.
Wests and Paga are separated by a single point sitting third and fourth respectively behind Hekari Tarangau and pacesetter Kone Storms.
Despite missing hardworking Sebastian Pandia to SNS Vipers, the little known Wests are real entertainers.
Under the watchful eyes of former Wests greats, Tuksy Karu and Joshua Kouoru, the former glamour team is going to be a tough nut to crack.
Paga’s performance have been inconsistent.
If they want to beat team like Wests, they must lift their performance.
On Sunday, Maiari Eagles should beat Dobo Warriors.
Warriors need to have a checklist and not count too much on local talent but expand by recruiting settlers from their area to beef up the frontline.
Warriors club president James Enage will have to instill discipline in his players to ensure they give their opposition a good challenge.
Kone Tigers will have a hard time over Royals. Despite the announcement of new patron, Thomas Nori, the club has displayed what is expected of a sporting club from the discipline force.
The absence of coach Paul Komboi to SNS Vipers has added misery to their downfall.
Tigers have recruited Robert Volu as their new coach to lead the team.
Defence’s performance last weekend proved that they are serious contender for the PRL championships tag and they will shoot down the Butterflies.
In the main game on Sunday, Gara Dast Brothers and Tarangau should put up a good game.
Tarangau will have to watch their step as Brothers would be no easy meet.
Coach James Naipao must instruct his boys to lift from the start of the whistle, otherwise they will pay the price.
Points ladder as of last weekend; Tarangau 35, Kone Storms 28, Paga Pathers 25, Wests 24, Brothers 23, Defence 21, Hawks 20, Magani 20, Dobo Warriors 17, Kone Tigers 16, Souths 16, Butterflies 15, Maiari Eagles 14 and Royals 6.
