THE Port Moresby AFL (POMAFL) season remains on indefinite suspension with club executives expected to meet this week to disclose their activities for the year, says an official.
POMAFL president Douglas Lai said concerns over the coronavirus pandemic needed more time for authorities to assess before re-opening venues and facilities.
“It has been a very cautious period for everyone during pandemic,” he said.
“I hope to meet club executives this week and after that, we will make an official response on the status of the competition this year.
“In the meantime, all POMAFL activities remain suspended until further advice from the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation (PNGSF).”
Early last month, players selected from POMAFL began training for the national men’s and women’s teams.
The group were waiting for selected players from other centres to join the training squad for the AFL International Cup scheduled for July 25 to Aug 8 in Australia.
POMAFL had suspended its activities, including the new season, in March due to government and PNGSF restrictions.
Port Moresby AFL’s Colts oval is among other sporting venues in the country that remain shut down as part of those restrictions during the nationwide state of emergency.
Meanwhile, it is understood the activities, including competitions and tournaments, of sporting bodies throughout the country remain on hold.
