THERE is a need for additional communication towers to ensure services reach dark spots in Pomio, East New Britain (ENB).
MP Elias Kapavore said this at the launch of the National Broadcasting Commission’s (NBC) radio service to the Palmalmal government station last week.
Kapavore said two weeks ago Digicel PNG upgraded its services from 2G to 3G and 4G but there were still problems being faced, even though several towers had been erected at certain locations around the district.
Kapavore said Telikom PNG and Citi phone were not fully functioning adding that there was a need for additional communication towers to ensure services reached more dark spots in the Pomio given its size and rugged terrain.
He appealed to Communication and Information Technology Minister Timothy Masiu to look at the ways to ensure other mobile service providers apart from Digicel PNG could service Pomio as well.
“The people of Pomio need options provided to them to access communication services and not be restricted to one mobile phone network operator,” Kapavore told Masiu who was present at the event.
Meanwhile, Kapavore urged students of schools in the district to utilise the radio and not to engage in other forms of entertainment.
He said there was valuable information to access via the radio.
Kapavore said the launch of the NBC 90.7 FM band, Pomio would become part of the country and world.
