Pomio pays university fees and demands the best from its students

POMIO students at PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment have been urged to excel in their studies and return home to develop the district’s huge natural resources potential.
A team from Pomio district, which represented Pomio MP and Public Service Minister Elias Kapavore, visited the university last Monday to pay the fees of students from the district.
Deputy district administrator John Liskia, executive officer Hillary Songtava and district electoral office representatio Lawrence Anton, paid K28,494 for 13 students.
Pro vice-chancellor academic Dr Aisak Pue, bursar Edward Laki, accounts representative Malom Tamti, Students’ Representative Council president Jasper Daun and Pomio students and staff witnessed the presentation.
Liskia told students that the tough economic time the country was going through was also affecting the district.
He said that despite that Pomio had tried its best to maintain support given to 314 students studying at tertiary institutions throughout the country.
Liskia told students that the assistance came with the expectation that sponsored students were committed to their studies and would graduate with good results.
He said the people of Pomio wanted to see the students return to help develop the district.
Liskia said there was a huge potential for fisheries development in Pomio and called on fisheries and marine resources students of UNRE to take the lead.
He said last year the district had begun working on improving the roads. This year the work focused on economic development.
