Pomis students attain prestigious title from science comp

THREE Port Moresby International School (Pomis) students have attained the prestigious title of Best in the Southeast Asia and Pacific Region in the recent Cambridge Upper Secondary Science competition.
Students Nagarjun Sureshbabu, Nile Usman and Abednego Pup were in Pomis team one of the competition.
“Their outstanding achievement is a testament to their dedication and aptitude in the field of science.
“Furthermore, the triumph at the regional level propels Team One into contention for the prestigious Best in World 2023 award, underscoring the caliber of talent nurtured at Port Moresby International School,” Pomis said in a statement.
The competition focused on “The Effect of Soundwaves Passing through Different Medians Made from Recyclable Material.”
More specifically “What is the most effective recyclable material for blocking sound, to be used in homes and buildings?”
Meanwhile, Pomis Team Two, composed of Chan Theingar, Gaurav Naidu, and Bayar Ankhbayar, and Pomis Team Three, consisting of Vania Kenai, Ipul Moses, and Alessa Maluwapi, earned gold certificates in the competition. Pomis said the competition’s panel of judges commended the winning team for their exemplary investigation, highlighting its well-conceived premise, meticulous execution, and global relevance.
The investigation, driven by a local problem, yet with significant global implications, demonstrated the students’ passion for science and their exceptional analytical skills.
The judges’ feedback lauded the Pomis students’ investigation for its comprehensive planning, clear hypothesis, meticulous data collection, and insightful evaluation of experimental limitations.
