THE presentation of individual awards for the Port Moresby Rugby Football League have been postponed to next year with the league’s administration giving time for teams and players to spend with their families over the festive season.
League administrator Meke Maino told The National that the presentation was unable to take place with time catching up with the competition’s operations.
“On our grand final day (on Dec 19), we had to sort out outstanding issues with the match referees, given their concerns after the violence that occurred during the preliminary finals,” he said.
“Because of the setback with sorting the referees, we started the grand finals behind schedule and weren’t able to hold a proper presentation after the A-grade match.
“Some of the finalists weren’t able to stay for the presentation and we saw that it would not be fair on them if we continued, so the board decided to move the presentation to next year.”
Maino said the presentation was now scheduled to take place between next month and February before the 2022 season.
“We want to use this presentation as a boost for clubs and players in the New Year,” he said.
“The board agreed that it would be the right thing for everyone to take a break.”
