THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League board has backed the decisions made by its independent judiciary to ban both Brothers and Souths following a weekend of violence in the competition.
League chairman Dr James Naipao said there would be no leniency on players, club officials and supporters who were involved in the assault of match officials on Saturday and Sunday.
“What happened on those two days didn’t warrant the league to be lenient on them and that’s why we’ve assembled the respective heads in rugby league for a judiciary team that’s independent of the board,” he said.
“Independently from the decisions that were made, the board will stand by them and if they want to appeal, they must appeal to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League.
“We will maintain the status quo of the decisions.
“Everyone will have to comply with the decisions.”
Naipao said another concern for the competition was the shortage of security personnel to stop spectators from entering the venues despite directives from the National Control Centre banning crowds.
He said the private security guards and Boroko police were not enough.
