POMRFL clubs penalised

SOME Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) clubs were not allowed to take the field in the second half of the season due to non-payment of player registration fees, according to an official.
POMRFL administrator Meke Maino said yesterday that all clubs were given enough time in the pre-season to pay the fees.
Holding a month-long pre-season in July, the league is more than seven weeks into its 2021 regular campaign.
“Over the past eight years, the South Pacific Brewery-sponsored league, under the chairmanship of Dr James Naipao, has been advising all clubs to deposit their registration fees into the league’s account at the Bank South Pacific Financial Group Limited Boroko branch,” Maino said.
“The reason behind the collection of fees through a single channel is that it’s easy to transfer funds to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL).
“It also allows us to have an accurate record of who has registered.
“PNGRFL then takes out insurance cover for players and officials from a portion of the registration fees.
“The other portion is used by PNGRFL’s respective confederations for administrative functions.”
