PORT Moresby School of Excellence (POMSoE) maintained the top spot after thrashing an eighth-man Saints 4-0 in the Port Moresby men’s premier soccer competition at the Bisini Soccer Park at the weekend.
The side, coached by Wayne Taylor, are a game away from the nearest rival, VAT Yamaros who lost to University 3-1.
Etsu Mungkas consolidated the third spot after a good 3-1 win against  Bulolo Hard Rocks.
Gordon Mates under the guidance of Nasa “Masalai” Wangu are still in the race despite losing 2-0 to Guria.
However, it was Yamaros striker Chartson Aopi who continued his good form in their match against University when he  headed home the only goal.
Despite the loss, the 19-year-old of Central and New Ireland parentage, is sending signals to scouts that he is available to participate in the 2010-11 National Soccer League season.
University, boasting of class and experience, gave their opponents little room to manoeuvre.
Midfielder Eli Mali and Roniel Igens were calling the shots for their  strikers.
In the other matches, YMC defeated Kurti Andra 3-1, Cosmos belted Defence 2-0 and  Warriors edged Momase 3-2.
After the weekend’s matches, POMSoE are on 57, Yamaros 54, University 49, Mungkas 48, Gordon Mates 43, Cosmos 39, Guria 39, Warriors 38, Momase 37, Hard Rock 35, YMC 33, Saints 28, Defence 21 and Kurti Andra 12.
