PORT Moresby AFL (POMAFL) heads into round two at the Colts Oval tomorrow with reigning premiers West Eagles taking on a new-look team made up of Kokofa and Cats players.
The Kokofa-Cats have lured former Papua New Guinea Mosquitoes pair Archie Mai Jr and Hapeo Bobogi.
Mai and Bobogi played for the Dockers and Koboni respectively last season.
The pair began their AFL career with the Kokofas, the club that turned them into Mosquitoes.
They have decided to return to the Kokofas this season to help develop the club’s young talents.
It will be interesting to see how the pair will lead their young side against a star-studded Eagles outfit comprising Greg Ekari, Kila Rawali, Clyde Pulah, Alois Mondo, Lindon Mondo, Jeremy, Dunstall and Danniby Kase.
The Eagles will be out in full force to atone for last week’s low-key performance and maintain status as title contenders.
In the main match at 3pm, Dockers and Koboni-Magpies will be out to prove that they still have the manpower to last the full four quarters.
Both teams did not have the numbers last week and had to field players who have yet to decide which club they will play for this season.
The day will begin with a “Niukick” programme, which is a pathway for students, run by AFL Papua New Guinea.
It is through the programme that the PNG Binatang (boys) and Kookaburras (girls) are selected to participate in the Queensland State Carnivals for Under-13, U15 and U17 teams and eventually give them the opportunity to make the Pacific team.
It will be an eventful day and POMAFL president Douglas Lai is urging followers of the sport to turn up and enjoy the matches.
