Port Moresby police launch toll free number

National

POLICE in Port Moresby have launched a toll-free number yesterday for the public to report incidents,” NCD Metropolitan Supt Perou N’dranou said.
The number is 1800 100.
“Residents can now call the operation number anytime and report suspicious incidents,” N’dranou said.
“Officers will be available from all the zones within the city to respond to the calls and assist.”
The communication line is a partnership between Telikom and the police.
N’dranou said issues had increased throughout the city and it was not easy to deal with matters quickly and the toll free number would be very helpful to the public because they could get help quicker.
He urged police officers to be committed to their work to deal with the public fairly.
Officers who failed and misused vehicles would be removed from the frontline.
The number would operate 24/7.
N’dranou said it was also an avenue to get reports of any trouble makers.
“People are the eyes and ears for the police from the outside,” he said.
He said the public could also use the number to call and report any police misconduct.
There are nine suburban police stations – Port Moresby, Badili, Hohola, Gerehu, Waigani, Boroko, Gordon, 6-Mile and Jackson’s Airport. Zone one will comprise Port Moresby, Badili and Hohola, zone two will compromise Gerehu, Waigani and Boroko while zone three will have Gordon, 6-Mile, Jackson Airport and Saraga.

  • A very thoughtful thing you have done Mr. N’dranou. Not sure if such arrangements have been done with other service providers such as Digicel.

  • The toll free number is more vital for the people of PNG and NCDC. It is good because it will help many people as much as possible. Mr. Pedro and your team, heads up and do your best. Security / Safety are paramount in everyday life.
